If you remember earlier this year, Discord is about to roll out age verification to all users, or they will be stuck in kids mode. With people looking for alternatives, Fluxer seems promising, but we waited for it to bake in the oven while they develop the self-hosting aspect.

Now that it’s...

Now that summer is coming to an end soon, here are the September Updates, namely the plan to upgrade or rather migrate the current server that hosts Mastodon to a new one. You might be wondering, why we need to do this. There are two issues, Debian 11 EOL and upgrading the Mastodon software...

It's unavoidable as you might have know already, AI datacenters have been buying up the supply of RAM and SSDs. If you experience any issues, comment on this post or file a ticket.

The migration for Sakurajima Social to a RHEL based server didn’t quite work out. To make my job easier, I will be moving the existing VM to the new host using Xen Orchestra. This will take a bit longer. While the server is on the same datacenter, it will take about 2 hours and 10 minutes to...

With some advancements in personal data stores (PDS) being easier to set up along with account migration process being easier than before, we are almost ready to start public testing of Sakurasora, our version of Bluesky, but independently run and not rely on any of Bluesky’s controversial...

On October 28th 2022, I started Sakurajima as an alternative to Twitter when it was taken over by Elon Musk. Since then, we have grown quite a bit, although of course the number of active users have stagnated over the past year. We have expanded our services beyond Mastodon and the Forums since...
