Trying to use the forum site on lower end browsers. (could spawn into multiple posts over time trying other browsers.)

I am looking at various browsers to see how well they handle the Sakurajima forums. Particularly lower end or lightweight browsers like Netsurf.

Netsurf is a browser from an erra, even being featured on a Linux setup for the Sony PS2, via an installation disc. this open source browser has been around for a while, but the first time I tried using it was on in late 2016 on one of my first Linux installs. It handles the Sakurajima forums well, but if you're going to type a post, or something like that it might not be as user friendly. It won't seem to display properly.

But other than that, the website seems to work as intended in the browser, when viewing posts and logging in.

Another browser is Links2. A terminal browser with images support right in the terminal itself. All I can say about it is, it loads the pages and the data. Being a terminal browser, the image support is impressive and site like the forums would work great in the terminal. Links2 does support cookies, so you can actually log in to the forums on this terminal browser, while displaying images.

Trying to reply to a post in Links2 to a gets me the result displayed in attachment 5.

thoughts: I was looking for a lightweight browsers to browse the forums in but I might need some more developed browsers to be able to reply to posts, although I feel like Netsurf could do it it's just missing some lines of code or something, it comes so close to being usable.

It's hard to use anything that's not a fork of Chromium that is also not Firefox. Midori browser is a fork of Fiefox now a days and (back in 2018 I remember a different type of Midori browser that was more it's own thing than a fork of another.

Falcon is also now using the Chrome web engine qtwebengine, a Chrome wrapper core. While still not relying on the Chrome store, but rather it's own built in features interface, which is what I like about it, something that says it's us without saying it.

It's a browser that surely could run forums.Sakurajima.moe right? Hadn't tried it but I would assumed so by default.

Testing it now. (as I'm typing this whole post in real time)

results
Everything in the opensource Falkon browser display and work excellently.

See when I started this browser test I assumed that a forum sites could work with an older browser, and it might vary on the html and JavaScript code used on different forums. For Sakurajima forums you can view and read posts on most browsers (even in terminal browsers), but in order to do a proper post you need a more advanced browser.

If you are just browsing the forum you can use a lower end browser with cookies disabled to save some battery life and privacy, or just do the usual, use Chrome use Firefox which works but doesn't quite have that early 2000s feel in the browser level.

Midori browser, which is based on Firefox now (aka a Firefox fork) it use to be known for being a lightweight browser. It was known for crashing constantly but now it doesn't crash as much.

It runs and displays the Sakurajima forums well. It's good to have alternatives but if a lightweight browser is using Firefox, why not just use Firefox at this point. Firefox and other Firefox based browser will run the site well.Screenshot 2024-09-17 10.19.00 PM.png
