Testing Discord Alternatives for Sakurajima

For those looking for an alternative to Discord, we are planning to provide a potential chat server alternative to host your community. Note that since Sakurajima is an Japanese media and culture centric community, we want to give priority to the following:

• Creative communities/groups that focus on the following:
  • Blogging/Podcasting/Creating Videos about Japanese media and/or culture
  • Creating fan-art/anime-styled artwork (including OCs)
  • VTubing (including creating models)
  • Vocaloid/Voiceroid (works created with Vocaloid, Cevio Ai, SynthV, Voiceroid, Voicepeak, etc)
  • Fanfiction or fiction (based off Japanese works or Japanese inspired)
  • Any small business selling Japanese goods.
  • Japanese inspired video games, RPG Maker or visual novels.
  • Cosplay, and other creations involving Japanese media or Japanese inspired.
  • Fansubbing or translation of unlicensed works.
• General or more specific Anime/Manga/Japanese video game communities (e.g. a social group that focus on a certain Gacha game)

Under limited circumstances, we will allow non-Japanese media/culture community as long the organize is a member of our Mastodon/Misskey or later, our AT Protocol PDS server for at least three months, own a blog that is featured on AniBlogTracker, or those who have donated the past may create non-Japanese media/culture related chat groups.

All Sakurajima rules applies to the use of our chat servers.

Two solutions are being evalulated

• Spacebar and Fermi: An open source clone of Discord, but rather incomplete. (located at https://spacebar.sakurajima.moe/)
• Zulip - A slack like alternative chat platform. (located at https://zulip.joinsakurajima.org)

Since the platform is in the testing phase, both platforms require invites. You can request an invite with our ticketing system soon (preferred), or through DM on Bluesky or Mastodon as long you are member of our Mastodon/Misskey or later, our AT Protocol PDS server for at least three months, own a blog that is featured on AniBlogTracker, or those who have donated the past. If you participate, you should give your feedback in the Sakurajima Discord Alternatives alternative thread and vote in the poll. The one that is most favored will be kept for the foreseeable future.

Once you are a member, you may invite other users that you know.

Note that the Sakurajima Forums chat will continue to exist, and require just a Forum account to use.
