With half of the year almost gone, here are some recent updates and additions:
  • Sakurajima Social is now updated, now based on 2025,4,0, which adds a bunch of new features, including the chat feature.
  • Ivory now works on Sakurajima Social.
  • The current fundraising progress is $347.82 out of $1284 (this is an estimate as not all the monthly pledges are processed on Patreon yet)

Server Move

As mentioned in April, we plan to move all our services to a dedicated server in Canada from OVH. The reasons are obvious, for safety and privacy reasons. We don’t expect this move to take as long as the previous as we will be taking a copy of the image of both the Mastodon and Misskey servers, put it on the new server. When the time comes for migration, each will have a maintenance window where the old server is put in maintenance mode, the DB and Redis stores are exported and then imported to the copied virtual machines with the domains pointing to the new IP addresses.

Costs may change (as in it may go down or stay the same before the move), but I have offered to rent part of our server resources to Urusai Social, as we are in talks as a possible a solution for them to move off AWS. It may reduce the monthly cost total if they decide to go this route. Note that with this move, costs may change as a result. However, this will give us the opportunity to fix the full VM backups and also possibly move other Sakurajima related services like WordPress hosting,, Pixelfed from the personal server to it’s own virtual machine, which will eventually house our Loops server.

The move will happen sometime in June and conclude in early July.

We are also exploring other ways to raise funds such as offering paid WordPress and Ghost blog/newsletter hosting. Access to the upcoming Loops server and Bluesky PDS server will require the users to have donated once in the past before an account can be created. For the latter, this requirement may be waived for established creators who want to move away from the official Bluesky server once easy migration is possible between PDS (Personal Data Server.)

Given that we do not have ads, we rely on donations. For the past two years, I have covered the rest of the costs. Given the situation, I think we need to reduce the funding gap or breakeven for long term sustainability. I plan to run this long term, and eventually make all of Sakurajima become its own organization.
