It’s that time of year again as we head to the holidays and the end of the year. I want to give a little update on what is planned for this month.
Possible Server Move
I am contemplating a server move to a bigger one due to the fact we are using a lot of storage due to three years of activity and the fact we want to expand our services to providing an Anime themed Bluesky compatible PDS based on rsky and Loops (a Tiktok alternative). Since the hypervisor needs to be upgraded due to the version being EOL, I think it’s a good time to move to a bigger server and consolidate the separate VPS into one host to possibly save on cost and ease of management.If we decide to move, the server that host the extra Sakurajima services (forums, Pixelfed, relay, etc) will go first, then Sakurajima Social (and mirrored industry accounts) and lastly Mastodon. The servers that host the extra Sakurajima services and Mastodon will have its VM migrated over to the new server. Sakurajima Social’s server will have its software and data migrated to a newly built server. I really want to standardize everything to use a long term supported release of RHEL instead of using Debian. After the move, it should give us more capacity to grow our services for the future. Fundraising for 2026
Since it’s Giving Tuesday, I’m plugging our ongoing fundraising, well reset our goals for the new year. Sadly, costs have gone up, primarily with domain costs as .social went up by 22%, or about $7. Since we will be providing more services, it will become important to become sustainable. We do not rely on ads, and I do want to keep running our services for the foreseeable feature. Any donations that we receive is appreciated and will help keep our services running and reduce the burden on me. Things as been a little rough this year for obvious reasons.The fundraising goal is to have $70 per month as our Patreon goal to start, or manage to raise $210 by the end this month. Note thatt donating is optional, but it helps, since hosting Mastodon especially is not cheap.
