Last evening, the personal server which not only host my blog, but also other small services related to Sakurajima such as the mirror bots, relay, Pixelfed,Yoshino Garden, and AniBlogTracker went down. After logging into the management interface, it appears the SSD has stopped working.
Thankfully, I have backup for most of the important things (like the forums and blog) and some things can be easily recreated like the bots and relay. AniBlogTracker, while still in beta and has quite a few problems with its data will have to have its database rebuilt, meaning the archive from the last 4 months is lost. However, it will come out being less busy and a better experience in the long run. I expect to work on rebuilding this during this weekend with some improvements in terms of anime matching as apparently there were duplicates of the same thing. The goal is to have it return in early October .
That said, it could have been a lot worse, but for the future, we plan to put better backup measures including testing the backups to ensure they actually work, and possibly relying more on virtual machines instead of running everything on bare metal and making it harder to recover due to having to reconfigure everything again.
I expect most things to be back up and running by the middle of this week or by the end. Yes, it's unfortunate and came at an unpredictable time, but it could have been a lot worse. While it would delay the roll out of Sakurasora a little bit, but we hope to have it out by the end of October the earliest.
